When Should You See The Eye Doctor

An eye doctor can help with preventative eye care, and this means giving you routine eye exams to make sure there are no changes to your vision or no warning signs. However, an eye doctor is also someone you want to go to for so many other reasons that have to do with your eyes or that may concern your eyes in some way. Here are some of the other reasons you may want to go into the eye doctor besides for preventative eye exams:

You got something in your eye.

If you get something in your eyes, such as sand, sawdust, or some other small particles, then you should flush your eye. You can use a cupful of water or an eyewash that you can buy from the pharmacy. Fill the container full of water, submerge your eye in the water, and blink a few times. If you still can't get the particles out, then you should go to the eye doctor. You should also go to the eye doctor if you did get the particle out, but your eye still hurts, or you are having any sort of vision issues.

If you have anything poke or otherwise injure your eye, and you have any reason at all to be concerned that there may be an actual eye injury, then this should also be taken as a reason to go in to see the eye doctor.

You are noticing changes to your vision.

In many cases, a person will go to their routine eye exams not expecting to hear that they need prescription glasses, even if they do. This is due to a person's vision changing so slowly that they don't even know it's happening. However, if you are noticing that there is something going on with your vision, then you want to make an appointment with the eye doctor.

Some things you may be noticing are blurriness, double vision, cloudiness, night blindness, squinting, problems seeing the TV, and anything else that isn't normal for you. Getting an eye exam as quickly as possible can help get you into lenses that can help you see better again, and it may even help catch other problems that need to be treated.

Conclusion

Remember that the eye doctor is there anytime you are concerned about your eyes, or if you want to talk to them about other health concerns you have that can affect your eyes in the future. The eye doctor can give you advice, as well as provide you with the appropriate treatments.
